A celebration of the life of James Nelwyn Baker, 69, will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 24, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Springhill, with Tom Hooten and Jerry Monholland officiating. Burial will follow at Western Cemetery in Emerson, Ark., under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill, 304 First Street NW, Springhill, LA 71075.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Bailey Funeral Home.
James "Chuck" was born May 29, 1944, in Springhill, and passed away at his home April 22, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was a former resident of Dixie Inn, a member of Church of Christ and graduated from Shongaloo High School in 1964. On March 20, 1965, he married the love of his life, Lynell Merritt Baker in Evergreen.
James was a Vietnam veteran serving from 1968-1970 with the United States Army, was an employee of International Paper for 20 years and enjoyed his work. He retired three years before his passing.
James is survived by his wife, Lynell Merritt Baker; his daughter, Tricia Baker Brantley and husband, Douglas W. Brantley; two adoring grandchildren, Abbi and Jarrett Cooney; two sisters, Velda Kaye Baker McLain and husband, Henry and Aline Baker Clark and husband, Bobby; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lavell and Gracie Haynes Baker of Shongaloo.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Allen Wyrick, Gray Morgan, Kevin Bias, Curtis Bias, Kirby Adams and Larry Coats. Honorary pallbearer will be Jarrett Cooney.
